You're comparing low end computing to mid-high end photography. Both markets have their mass low end (£300-£500 PCs, P&S cameras), the niche high end (hardcore gaming PCs, servers, DSLR cameras), and ultra high end (mainframes, hasselblads).
Of course, at the low end both computers and cameras seem to be merging with phones into a universal device which is enough for more and more people as time goes by.
