Why is the Canon 50mm F/1.8 o so expensive

Looking on the classified ads and noticed that some of the older MKI versions are going for £90-£105 mark. Yet the new one (MKII) brand new can be had for £80. Something I missing?

Yes, the mk1 is a metal mount so commands a premium.

and has a proper focussing ring and distance scale, and is better built in general.

Like what they say...... honestly, if you can find a MKI that's in good condition get it, a gem of a lens

The mark 1 has a much better build quality. Mark 2"s frequently fall apart.
