why no OS when using a tripod

Does anyone know why Sigma recommend OS is not used when the camera is tripod mounted?
Do other manufacturers make the same recommendation?
Has anyone any comments on the consequences of ignoring Sigmas advice.

It doesn't really matter for normal exposures but for the longer ones the IS/OS/VR/SSS will move the camera ever so slightly because it thinks it needs to correct. Give it a test, try with a 20 second exposure with the stabilisation on and off.

The OS searches for movement and helps reduce it on your photos. When on a tripod and no movement exists, it can actually create movement.

Unsure if Sigma do this but on some lenses they have Tripod detection which should prevent that happening.

Best way to be 100% sure though would be to turn it off regardless
