Wide angle adaptor rings - please clarify there use

I've been looking at these for a little while now but no websites actually tell me 100% if they would be suitable for what I would want to use it for.

I shoot MX a lot and mainly use my 70-200 for this, changing lenses is not an option as it is too dusty to be switching lenses all the time. but sometimes it would be nice to be able to shoot in a position that is say on top of a jump which the 70-200 lens isn't suitable for, if I used one of these adaptor rings how much extra would this give me if any, from 70 to what? Or have I misunderstood it's use. Also would it degrade the quality of the images?
 
Sarah, if you're on about UWA/Magnification adaptors then don't bother, your lenses were designed for the focal length provided by the manufacturer. They degrade the image soo much that you'll get aberrations beyond your control etc (Basically they start to show the colour spectrum of light on edges etc)
What you may be looking for is a Teleconverter but this still requires lens removal

Ok so what exactly does a teleconverter do?
 
Well, if you need a bit more length then it starts from 1.4x upto 3x but I believe only a few manufacturers make the 3x including Kenko. You can pick up a Kenko EF 2x teleconverter for around £50 second hand on ebay. Measures around the same dimensions as a nifty fifty. Bare in mind though that if you extend your focal length you will multiply the stops on the aperture so if you were to use a 70-200 F4 it would become a 140-400 F8 so it will be a bit slower depending on what you're shooting and if it's weddings that you're thinking of then it might get tricky without practise!

It was kind of the opposite I was after I wanted more wide angle on my 70-200 so that when I shoot mx I don't always have to be so far away all the time, I can for example shoot from the top of a jump, 70 is too much or I'm too near which ever way you want to look at it.

Think maybe running a second camera is the only way to get what I'm really after though....

You could have bought a lee filter holder and filters to go with it. ;-)
