Wide angle compact camera

I apologise for my lack of knowledge, but after the destruction of my Pentax Optio s4i, i'm looking for a half decent replacement. Compacts with wide angle lenses are now available in the sub £200 bracket, but I have no experience with these at all. I'm trying to decide between a Lumix FS15, or slightly more expensive (but not wide angle) Ixus 100.

I suppose my question is... is it worth having a wide angle lens in a compact, or is the money better spent on a higher quality standard camera? Also, is a 4x or 5x wide angle zoom able to zoom in further than a 3x, or are the extra multiples actually used to zoom out to wide angle?

As I say, my lack of knowledge is an embarrassment on this forum, but help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

How about Samsung WB550..?
It has 24mm wide angle and up to 10x Optical Zoom
And currently cost 211 pounds in warehouseexpress.
Might try and have a look in Currys and try it out if availible.
I tried it out in currys before...quite good to use...

But then its you the one going to use it..
So try it out before you buy it..

If you can afford more than 200 pounds then go for second hand Panasonic LX3.
Although only 2.6x Zoom from 24mm wide angle.
But has a bigger sensor and largest aperture (F2.0)
