Wide angle compact cameras

Hi, my dad's looking to replace his compact and I'm helping him choose it. I was hoping people here could offer us some advice.

He's currently using Canon Ixus 200 IS and wants a high quality pocketable camera. He wants something that's got a wide angle of view, same as his current one (24mm) and performs well in low light. Budget around £250.

I originally suggested the Canon S95, but unfortunately they only go as wide as 28mm. I then spotted the Sony HX9V and Nikon S9100, but I kinda don't trust superzooms. Surprisingly little compacts go as wide as 24mm. Panasonic LX5 fits the bill but it's a bit on the large side. What else is out there?

I have the Sony HX9V, it was the best of the available list I could cash in some pulsebeats on a couple of months ago (truth be told, I was wanting the Fuji X10 or the Canon G12, but I had the points to spend). By all accounts the HD video performance is outstanding and blows away most DSLRs, but I've not explored that aspect - plenty of online reviews and examples.

It is not the sharpest stills camera available, the jpg compression and noise control are far too aggressive (and can't be toned down) and this is very apparent when pixel peeping. Some of the more artistic modes exploit this to interesting effect. But after getting used to it I'm getting results I'll be printing for my personal portfolio and to hang on the wall. I've got some samples here, but most of them are heavily mullered - either using in-camera muller modes, with Lightroom post-processing, or a combination of both.
