Do Sigma make a 10-20mm For the 1D?
 
I understand that the 10-20 is EF-S only. I liked the 17-40 on my 1D.

Various options available but the Sigma 12-24mm is the easiest.

You can also used a Tokina 11-16 which works ok from approx 13mm onwards(vignettes below that).The Tokina 10-17 Fisheye also works(from approx 12mm upwards).
You can modify a Canon 10-22mm to work on a 1D camera-easy to do and plenty of examples on the net.Some people have also used a Sigma 10-20mm with a 1.4 tcon and gotten good results.
I've only personally used the Sigma 12-24mm and Tokina Fisheye.The Sigma is ok and gives 16mm equiv at the wide end(also loses the worst part of the lens too).The fisheye is awesome and really wide.

Well, my view is you need a pro lens for a pro camera. The Sigma lens on a 1D just doesn't work for me... But if you have the readies, the 16-35 works well on the 1D's...
 
Those aren't exactly low end Sigmas though.
 
Is the 12-24mm a low end Sigma? Seems to cost a pretty penny.

There are optical compromises but maybe that's to be expected when pushing the limits so much. It is as far as I know the widest non fish eye zoom, even if there are others that'll do the same it's not exectly a large number of lenses to choose from.

15-30mm, 24-60mm & 400mm sigmas work very well on my 1D. They're not cheap lenses, but to say that you need the worlds most expensive glass to get good shots is utter rubbish I'm afraid.
 
I have a sigma 12-24, although not on a 1D, but I would strongly recommend that you don't buy it online. I went through several copies of the lens before eventually getting the shop to send one back to Sigma to get them to sort it out. And Sigma service did agree that the quality of the one sent back was not acceptable. The first couple were frankly a mushy mess, and I imagine would have looked even worse on a 1D or full frame camera.

I think there's a new MkII version available now, I hope Sigma have managed better QC on it, but I'm always wary of this aspect to Sigma lenses.

Once you get a reasonable copy, then it does alright, although I find it does still need a fair bit of PP sharpening, but then takes the sharpening very well.
 
Well bought a 12-24 off Taz on the forum, works brilliantly.
 
I use the 12-24 on a 1DIV and it has saved me a few times at weddings. There are copy variations but if you get a good one (mine is) then its a great lens.
