Ok I want to hire a nice wide angle lens for when im down in cornwall next week over easter. I was going to get the 16-35 f4 but it was out on loan that week. I know the 14-24 2.8 is supposed to be incredible but you cant put a filter on it and i'd just feel naked if i cant put a filter on a lens if im doing landscapes.

so out of whats left, what would someone reccomend...

ive got a tokina 12-24 f4 that i can use in DX mode and that was lovely on my D300 but i want to try an FX lens as it will let me try before i buy one.

The Nikon 17-35mm would be my next choice, then the sigma 12-24, but you cant use filters on that either.

I think the 16-35 really is the pick of the bunch there, which is probably why its already booked!

Can't see add much more to what Tom has said. 16-35, 17-35, 18-35 is the order I'd go.

There's always the 18-35, I have one and it's plenty sharp on my D700, but maybe not so much on the higher res D800.
