Wide angle lens

I`m looking to get a wide angle lens, Iv started doing weddings as a side project aswell as my job. I, as a first timer wedding photographer would like a few hints n tips on what lens I should look for, Im doing another on the 26th of this month which will bring my balance upto 400, and with a little bit of money from work ill put to a new lens.

So can anyone advise me please?
 
Add the Tokina 11-16 F2.8 to that list

How wide do you want to go? Too wide and you're going to get a lot of lens distortion. Converging verticals, bride's nose looks a foot long etc.

On a full frame body. The 2 lens' i used most at a wedding are Nikon's 24-70 and 80-200. I also use the Nikon 17-35 but that's usually just for inside the car shot.

If you're not looking for an ultra wide lens i would look at a 2nd hand Nikon 17-35 F2.8. (Great lens) On a DX body that will equate to around a 26-53mm

i'll give the tokina 12-24 the thumbs up got it and love it pin sharp just need to find the time to get out and use it more
 
i have the sigma 10-20 but i would rarely use it for people shots, as above it distorts them, maybe go for something like the canon 24-105 ideal lens IMO

I think what you are talking about is perspective, but all lenses will display converging verticals if you tilt the lens when composing the shot and all lenses will cause exaggeration if you are able to shoot close enough. Wide angle lenses are generally better corrected than less wide lenses and usually give much less distortion. For example, at the same setting a good wide angle lens will very probably show less distortion than a quality 17-50 or 24-70mm, that's been true in my experience.
 
A uwa lens at a wedding isn't that useful for people shots as most have said. However its still useful for capturing large/wide scenes as long as you have foreground interest.

On a dx body like the D7000 if you are on a budget I'd recomment the Sigma 10-20 is excellent value for money - I have one! Else the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 is super sharp and faster though a little more restrictive in the zoom range.

If you plan on going full frame anytime then the Nikon 14-24 2.8 is stunning (I have one of those too).

If you need a wide shot, a panorama stitched together might be a better idea like this shot which was done with a normal telephoto zoom:

I think I may go for the Sigma lens as it seems to be mentioned a lot more than most, thanks Kman for showing me your examples, is the first shot with the Sigma, 10-20?
 
The sigma is a great lens!
