Wide angle options for a Nikon 35mm lens: Opteka .35x?

Hi guys,

I use a Nikon D5100 with a prime 35mm lens. Now I want to take pictures in a small room, but want to get as wide a shot as possible, so I have ordered an Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon. Now I know it's a lens attachment for a fisheye effect.

My main doubt here is when I stand in the corner of my room with my prime 35mm, I only get the other corner of the room due to the focal length. When I add this attachment, will it give me more of the room in the shot? Effectively turning the 35 into a 13mm (Based on conversion rate of .35). Is that how it works or is it the same focal length hence same area coverage but with a fisheye effect?

Can anyone who owns an Opteka .35x give it a try with their lens on a fixed focal and tell me if the area in the picture increases?

Or simply know the answer by experience :) Any help on the topic would be greatly appreciated!
 
Yes it will give you a effective focal of 13mm when using the adapter on your 35mm prime. 35 x 0.35

Having use the fish eye adapter myself but imagine it will give you a fish eye effect, not sure you aftering wide focal or fish eye effect.

I use a wide angle adapter before that is 0.45 which does the job ok on my 28mm prime but optic is only normal in fact it degrade the image quality.

If you just want to get the job done then it's good otherwise invest on a wide angle lens.
 
Thank you so much for that Badboy! Good to know that it effectively changes the focal to a 13. Does it come out like a complete circle fisheye effect or partial? I am only asking this because its a prime and not a zoom where the curvature can change... Would it be possible for you to post a sample of any room shot from one corner? And the details of the lens focal at that point...

Anyone else have any other interesting inputs or viewpoints on the subject, please feel free to drop a line.
 
I do some test shot tonight and post it up. If is a fish eye adapter it will have the circle effect. My is a wide angle adapter so it will give me that extra wide.

The exit data will still show the focal of your lens even you use adapter, because you adding extra glass infront, also a note to remember. The extra glass in front of your lens will degrade optic quality and also letting less light to the lens.
 
The second link is the one I got. The adapter just make your lens to wide angle by x0.45

Get that one if you don't want fish eye.
