Wide angle prime

I need to get a wide angle lens for my 1DSmkII. I only really shoot landscape photography and have done so with a 5Dmk1 and 17-40L which I really enjoyed using. Unfortunately these two are no longer with me hence my new (to me) 1DSmkII!

Before I lost my 17-40L I had been very tempted with a wide prime. Particularly as looking back at my shots I normally used that lens at 17-20mm. Further to this when getting large prints done I am a little disappointed with sharpness in the corners.

I am really looking into manual focus lenses like Zeiss, Leica, Voigtlander for improvements in image quality between 17 and 21mm focal length. I have no problem with manual focussing only but would like to be able to use filters.

I know the Zeiss 2.8 Distagon is the cream of the crop but is there anything cheaper around £700 or below

A good source of info on mf lenses is Fred Miranda's Alternative Lenses forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on there.
I think you'll find most options in that focal length range will be quite costly.
The only one I can think of that wouldn't break the bank is the Zuiko (Olympus) 21mm. From what I've read the multicoated version is best for flare control. Olympus lenses are very good and work well on Canon bodies with a decent adaptor. I've got a multicoated 24mm and it performs very well.
