Wide Angle Zoom or Prime?

I've came to a point i need a wide angle lens to do landscape stuff.

Use to have a 18-70 which i can use as wide angle but since i sold it and got the 28-70 i don't have the wide side anymore.

I came across to a few choice of lens i can buy but then i came across the samyang 14mm prime.

Nikon 16-35 f4 (need to save up abit more)
Nikon 18-35 (cheap alternative)
Samyang 14mm f2.8
 
There are a few choices in the 10-20mm range.

I use a sigma 10-20 on a nikon D80 body ...very pleased with the results....something else for you to consider!
 
Reason i choose those lens are because the all less then 1k and i want FX lens. Going to move to Full Frame later this year, so any DX lens will be no no for me.

I maybe wrong but i think the 10-20 is DX lens.
 
i kinda on the 16-35 side but the 18-35 i cheaper ........
Landscape is not something i do very often compare to portrait etc.
 
I have just bought a Sigma 12-24mm for FF to replace my Sigma 10-20mm. Haven't used it too much yet, but am pleased with the shots I have taken. Only downside is that the front element protrudes a lot, which means filters are a no-no, so no CPL

That is exactly the reason I didn't go for that lens, I fancied the wideness but couldn't manage without my filters.
 
hmm, i need to use filters like CPL and Cokin Filters. So i guess i better stick with Nikon 16-35 or 18-35 which is within my budget. Anything higher then £900 is out of my budget on a wide angle lens.

You can use 82mm filters (they screw into the lens cap 'collar') but the range is more restricted, can't remember the specifics though.

Cheers for that John, will have to do a bit of research, would be great to get a CPL for my new lens
 
On a budget now on getting a wide angle lens because i wanted to buy the new nikon 85mm 1.8G in March so only got little to spend now.

Planning to buy the Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 lens.
 
Reason i've choose the one i mention plus the Tamron is because those a FX lens and it will work on Full Frame.

The Sigma 10-20 and the Tokina 11-16 is DX lens for crop.

Reason for that is i'm moving to Full Frame later this year so i want my lens to work on the FF body.

The ones i pick may not be the best but just want something that i can work on since i don't shoot too many landscape.
