Given you mention architecture as well as inside building you may need to consider the Nikkor 24mm PC lens - I think all of the zooms have noticeable distortion

Not holding the camera back vertical will cause converging verticals; not holding the camera back parallel to a facade will cause converging horizontals; neither of these will cause pincushion or barrel distortion which is what zoom lenses suffer from.
You may never see it, if your subjects don't reveal it. When you start to photograph buildings which should have straight lines, and you find that at the frame edges they are curved then you'll see it.
This isn't the same as the commonly noted wide angle distortion that makes people at the edge of the frame fatter; this is caused by an extreme off axis view of a three dimensional subject. I took photos to prove this once.

To answer the OP. In terms of recommendations, the three outstanding performers are the Nikon 14-24f2.8 and 16-35f4 plus the Tokina 16-28f2.8. Please feel free to regard this as biased opinion since I am going all-crop I have a Tokina 16-28 up for sale here on TP. The unbiased opinion, however, is that the Tokina is very close to the 14-24 in most respects but at a fraction of the price and it is well worth checking out. A quick google will confirm the above.
