Back again. Let me explain what I did step by step, and maybe someone can point out where I'm going wrong. I download the driver and unzipped it as V193W Vista WHQL Driver, which gave me a folder called LC1 containing three files - V193W Security Catalogue, V193W ICC Profile and V193W Setup Information. I saved the unzipped file to the desktop. Opened System, Device Manager, Monitor, Plug and Play Monitor and selected the Driver tab and Update Driver. Checked the option declining connection to Windows Update and Install from a list or specific location. Used the browse button on the next page, battled to find the folder on the desktop and eventually recopied it to another location and found it. The system basically refused to accept any of the folders, but eventually and grudgingly loaded one. I was getting a bit frustrated by this stage and really can't remember what I did at this stage (sorry), but the Driver tab in Monitor Properties confirmed that the new driver was loaded. Rebooted and opened Properties from the desktop. No options to select 1440 x 900 or any other new resolutions. Went back into System and so on and found the Microsoft driver again!
I'm not giving up on this, and if anyone has the patience to step in again I'd be grateful. Thanks.
