Widescreen Vs Square Monitors

Trying out a monitor I was given for free, Samsung 19" LS19C widescreen type, my old one is a LCD Samsung Syncmaster 17N (square type). Reason I decided to try out this widescreen monitor was it has a HDMI connector on it and as my gfx card has HDMI I thought I'd give it a go. Quality of reading text in HD is far better than my old 17n, photos are ok too but some look a bit smaller on screen. The 19" LS19C screen has been calibrated using Huey Pro and colours look ok but I'm not 100% sure if I like this widescreen effect yet. Using this widescreen monitor I lose about 2 and a half inches in actual screen height compared to the 17" square monitor.

Would a larger widescreen for exampl 22" - 24" give a better display?

Do you think widescreen lcd type monitors are better than square type, ?

Probably crt is better for photography but I don't have the room any more for one of these muckle beasts :-)

all depends on actual resolution as to what you see on screen, for example im currently viewing using 2560x1440 resolution and looking at forums homepage i see right down to the "birds" forum, with a 1280x720 resolution i can only see down to the "talk film and conventional" forum

A larger screen will only allow you to see more on screen (without having to scroll) If it has a larger resolution, larger screens do tend to have higher resolutions.

All my monitors are wide screen, awful for browsing the net IMO, much prefer 4:3. But widescreen is better for movies and stuff in the bedroom
