Wildlife 40D or 50D?

Yes
I know this has probably been covered a hundred times before but I have read so many different reviews I don't know which one to choose.
99% of the time it will be pointed in the direction of birds, so af is rather crucial but I also like showing birds in the environment so megapixels is also important. Does the 50d have anything better than the 40d for bird photography as I have read some reviews stating the af is better on the 40d

Which one would be better for me? Thanks for any help

The 50D is a 15 megapixel sensor vs a 10 megapixel sensor in the 40D, so you should be able to crop more on the 50D. However, the 50D has worse high ISO noise performance, and is around £300 more than a 40D. I shoot with a 40D and it does everything I could ever want in a camera.

The only disadvantage that the 50D has over the 40D is that it seems to be marginally inferior when the Iso is nudged up to 1600 or more. Many things are the same and a few are better.

The real issue is whether your current/future lenses can provide the sensor with something that it's extra pixels can work with. You may well be paying £300'ish and not seeing an improvement.
