I'm staying at caravan site near the town of Usk at the end of April. Does anyone have any suggestions of places to go for photographing the wildlife in the area, also what kind of wildlife am I likely to encounter?

Forrest of Dean is fairly close, keep an eye on http://www.birder.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ for up to date info, the Wye valley is good as is RSPB reserve at Newport, there are bearded tits, marsh harrier, hobby, little grebe and a host of other water birds ( W Nash Rd, Newport, NP18 2PZ ).

The Teifi is probably 2hrs+ from Usk??

Try Llangorse Lake, about 6 miles east of Brecon. Head for the south side, near a village/church called Llangasty. Go past the church and you soon reach a small car park right by the edge of the lake. Walk 5 mins westwards along a public footpath and you will come to the most amazing bird hide you have ever seen. If you have wellies you can wade through the reeds to a small wooden jetty.

Magic place, especially at dawn.

But the north side of the lake is busy and commercialised. Avoid!

Thanks Jeremy, that sounds perfect.
