I am over to the Wirral in a couple of weeks as a relative of mine who is 16 is starting out on photography and he wants to have a go at taking some wildlife shots, I have been with him to Burton Mere which he liked so may go there again, just wondering if there are any other places? I am taking my 500 f4 and gimbal, a 100 - 400 and macro stuff.

Thanks

The Dee estuary is an important place for birds.

Check out the tide tables for Hilbre Island.

At high tide, especially if there is one above 9m, pop along to Parkgate for potential views of Short Eared Owls, Peregrine and maybe Merlin. Also Great White Egret, Little Egret and various waders, ducks and so on. The high tide pushes voles etc in towards the shore. Old Baths car park is best for Shorties.

At low tide, it's possible to walk across to Hilbre Island, might get seals.

Natterjack Toads at Red Rocks (apparently, never seen them myself).

Great views from the top of Thurstaston Hill.

Frodsham Marshes can be good for birds too.

Though not on The Wirral, you could pop up the coast to Formby for possible Red Squirrels.

Good luck.

Royden park has a few hides around a lake also check out the Wirral country park as they also have a hide in the visitors centre, also check out Parkgate for marsh birds.

.as the others point out there are lots of places ,some that have been missed are leasowe lighthouse, red rocks ,west Kirby marine lake ,new Brighton area ,heswall prom .unfortunately it's the wrong time of year for the high spring tides or the raptors on the Dee marshes .my best suggestion though would be to get a tide table and be at any of those spots above coming up to high tide as it pushes the birds in .most of the lads in the area are very friendly and a quick chat often pays dividends ,the Dee estuary website also gives a daily updated sightings list

Thanks again for the good advice, we are up at Hoylake so all easy reach.

Kings parade at hoylake is the obvious place then get a tide table I think the best tides are around 24th at 12.35 p.m and tues 25th at 1.22 p.m both 9.5 mtrs might be there myself ,depending on the weather
