Evening,

I am wanting to be able to shoots birds on a lake and my 70-210 beercan isnt quite cutting it, I have a teleconvertor on the way so should assist slightly.

Is there a budget option to getting more length?

I dont want to go M42 or manual with this as is a pain to lug around :)

I have seen a Sigma 400mm 5.6 af and looks good, anybody used that before?

Thank you for the help as always

Max

Sigma 120-400 OS is supposed to be decent, think they go s/hand for about 400 quid or so

The bad news is that there isn't a really cheap method of getting focal length, the Sigma 120-400 or the slightly longer 150-500 are the cheapest best options. Try and find one secondhand.

Ffordes have 2 minolta 100-300s knocking about. One is 70 odd and the other 99 quid. Think they have the sigma 120-400 for £300 or so. Harrison cameras also have the 100-300d for £225. That is better than the xi version according to dyxum.

There's also the tamrons 28-300 and 70-300. The former I have an it is pretty reasonable if a little heavy. Jumping to 400mm is where it gets more expensive!
