Yes
will a CANON Speedlite 299T be ok to use with my 350d ?

Or would I need a slave drive etc. between it and my camera?

Thanks

I believe an old gun like that would have a very high trigger voltage, personally I wouldn't mount it directly on a digital body but would use a trigger I.e a slave as you have suggested.

The trigger voltage of the 299T is only 4.75v so there shouldn't be a problem.

If the trigger is 4.75v as Bob says then there will be no harm in trying it. If your unsure of the volts then don't risk it. It's better to use off camera so getting a transmitter and receiver would be a worth while investment IMO and something you will want in the future anyway.

What about a slave drive?
how much is a cheap transmitter & receiver usually?

From what I've read the flash is safe to use direct with the camera, but it does not automatically sync up so I have to set the apeture and iso on the flash to match the camera, and it will work

apparantly of all the old flashes the 299t is the best one to use with modern DSLRS because of all its settings and functions :)

Thanks everyone for your help, I still value anyone else's opinions that want to comment ;) x
