No
Just bought a set of lee 150mm ndgrads & wondered if they will also work as a standard nd filter. I guess its unlikely with an wa lens but is it ok with a standard focal length?

Thanks

Simon

Yes. As long as the angle of view isn't greater than the width of the grad part you can simply shoot through it and treat it as an ND.

Yes, thanks...that's what I thought, has anyone had any problems with the filter not covering the whole frame and if so at what focal lengths - obviously I'll be trying ti out but would be interesting to know beforehand?

.

I haven't tried this but I would imagine that a hard grad would make doing this alot easier / effective.

On a similar note my Dad has got away with using a standard ND filter to darken the sky, but not the ground, he's got it printed 16x24" and you can't tell.

How? By just having half of it covering the lens?

Yes, along the horizon line.

On a similar line of thought, I suppose you could use the *edge* of a ND filter as a very hard edged ND grad if the filter was big enough and the angle of view narrow enough.......

edit: I see Lewis's dad already did this.....:bonk:

and Chris Gilbert......:bang:
