Will my Ram fit?

So my new 27inch i5 Quad core came with 4gb of ram but I understand that there are 2 slots free to add more RAM

My question is, will the 4gb of RAM I had in my Intel Core 2 Duo 24inch iMac fit into this new one so I can upgrade it to 8gb RAM?

or is the ram a different type?
 
It will depend on your mother board.

i currently have 3 out of 6 slots used my current board, but that means i'm running tri channelled - so would need to install another 3 sticks of ram.
 
looking on crucial it says its ddr3 and my older imac is ddr2, so i guess thats a no then

yeah pretty much, sell the DDR2 ram and then buy some DDR3 - can be had for about £50 for 2x2GB
