Will there be a new 85mm?

Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, is there any rumours about Nikon upgrading their 85mm f/1.8D any time soon?

I'm asking as they seemed to have upgraded their 85mm f/1.4 and both their 50's 1.8 and 1.4 versions. Is anyone else, like me, waiting or wanting Nikon to release an AF-S affordable upgrade to their 85mm f/1.8?

Doubt it. I dont think there is a market for an 85mm on the more basic DSLRs. Most people who buy (certainly the 3100) will be happy with kit lenses and at most, the 50mm. 85mm on a crop will be too long for many people, especially at around £400-£500 at a guess.

dunno though - no-one really saw the 50 f/1.8 upgrade coming. Always possible

I doubt it as well.
The market for Nikon 85mm prime is pretty much populated by enthusiasts who buy one for specific purposes and there are already several 85mm Nikon options currently available.
I do not use my 85mm 1.8 much but I have a comfort zone knowing that particular lump of glass in in my bag.
