Will there be a Nikon equivalent to Canon S90?

No
So i hear the S90 is one of the better options for a compact, however I'm a fan of Nikon.

Will there be an equivalent?

I can't understand why you wouldn't buy a Compact from Canon, even if you are a fan of Nikon. It's not as if it has interchangeable lenses or anything that you couldn't use.

I recently bought an S90 from Kerso to carry with me always (which isn't possible with my 5D2) and I love it.

I didn't buy it because I'm a Canon fan, I bought it because it is a great compact.

fair point. But having played with most brands dslr I do like nikon interface and menu etc

How much did you pay?

The interface on the S90 is nothing like that on the Canon SLRs so I would go and have a play with one if I were you.

The price seems to have dropped a bit since I got mine (b****y typical!), pm Kerso for a current price as his may have dropped too.

For reference, Amazon currently have them for £302 delivered.

Big Nikon fan here, too, but all the reviews show the Nikon's P6000 is not a patch on the Canon G10. If you really don't want a Canon, the Panasonic LX3 is also very good, but with a shorter zoom.

i just assumed a nikon interface would be nicer for my own use as i prefer nikon ones in general. however if it's not like the dslr that's worth a look in.

G10 is a bit too much DSLR function like, i want something easy, lightweight, anyone can use, so the S90 and the functions.

for most DSLR users looking for an everyday walk around compact the choice is inevitably between the S90 & the LX3 as the G series are considered a bit chunky.
have a fiddle with both & see what you fancy. i like my LX3 & there are plenty of nice example shots on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/843626@N22/pool/
there's probably plenty of nice S90 shots on there too so both can be considered capable cameras
