I am looking to get a new laptop with main use being running Photoshop CS4 and Microsoft Office 2010 suite.

Will this spec for the Dell Precision M6600 do the business?

Do I need to go any further with the spec?

Overkill if anything, the Precisions are Professional Business grade machines, youre paying a premium here, try dropping down to the Latitude Business grade machines and save yourself a few quid, however, if you can afford it and will use it to its full potential (CS4 and Office wont even make it blink and the Video Card is a Video and CAD rendering brute which isnt even going to kick in) then why not.
 
Thanks for the quick reply, Gary. I've taken a look at the Latitude range, but they dont do a 17" screen :thumbsdown:

I've been using a 17" lappy for 2 years now and have got used to it and wouldn't want to downsize
 
Ah, didnt realise 17 inch screen was a pre requisite, go for it then, like i said the video card is way over what you need but then again so is the rest of it but why not, if you want to save a few quid on Dells silly prices try one of the Ebay resellers, you still get the 3 year NBD warranty but save up to 50%

I like the Dell blurb of "DELL RECCOMENDS" then they go and reccomend an upgrade to the video card to the NVIDIA Quadro 5010M with 4GB GDDR5 at a cost of over an extra £1,600
 
Yup. That'll do the business. As would a 17" Dell XPS with similar processor.

If you go Dell direct, google dell voucher code. You can almost always get money off the XPS series (at least)

Some of his stuff is new and some is refurbs on customer returns or canceled orders. Many come with the Dell 3 year NBD warranty included and prices are usually very keen. He supplied my current machine - an XPS M1710, saving around £400 on the price direct from Dell back in 2007 - and he has 100% feedback on over 28,000 trades. He has several M6600s in stock at varying spec levels at the moment.

Have a look around the Outlet too. I got a fairly mega laptop from the Outlet (which I believe is where the eBay sellers get theirs from, and obviously make a profit on top).

I got a Latitude E6510, which is a 15" screen, but the resolution is the same as yours in the first post, so the amount of stuff on the screen is no different. I'd never buy a 17" laptop, they're just too big to have any of the advantages of a laptop.

If you do decide you'd rather go direct to Dell, don't forget cash back from the likes of Quidco or TopCashBack. In addition to voucher code discounts you can actually get a fair bit more - 10% give or take in cash back. The figure does vary from week to week.

Also you can get hold of voucher codes and a quick heads up on some of the best deals from http://www.dmxdimension.com/dell-uk/precision-deal-comparison/. If you want extra cash back don't click through from that website. Instead just use it to find codes and deals, but click through from Quidco, TopCashBack or your preferred cash back website to keep your cookie trail in order.

The cash back websites also work with eBay, but only cough up a fairly trivial amount. Still, every little helps. :)
