hi guys just wanted to ask if anyone knows if this lens would fit my nikon
D3000

Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Zoom Lens 70-300 mm f4.0-5.6

seen it on ebay and thinking of getting one for basic shots and portrait work

Yes.

Any af-s will as it has a built in focus motor.

That lens doesnt have a focus motor though does it? I do not think it will work on the D3000.

I got confused with the vr version.

This lens isn't great though...I'd be much more tempted with a second hand 55-200mm.

Can anyone advise me on what i need to look for in a lens to make sure that it would work on my D3000.
Im getting confused on which ones work and which ones dont.

In order to use auto focus you'll need a Nikon lens that is designated AF-S (or the extremely rare AF-I).

From other manufacturers, Sigma's with HSM designation will work. Not sure what Tamron and Tokina use to identify lenses with internal focus motors.
