Hi All

Last Friday I went to Silverstone for the Wiiliams F1 40th birthday celebration and Grand Prix preview. They had a selection of their heritage cars running and a load of former and current drivers turned up as well. Sir Frank Williams and Sir Patrick Head both turned up for a photo shoot.

I hope you all like them and please feel free to comment.

Just a few more for you to hopefully enjoy

Some mad entertainment in the shape of the Williams sponsor JCB. Every Builder should have one of these!

Some serious motors here. Dread to think how much this lot is worth.

From memory I think it was Karun Chandhok. Channel 4 where filming the day, they are broadcasting it as part of their British grand prix program, probably on race day.

I see McLaren made an appearance.

Great photos! I struggle at Silverstone, but then I use a 200mm!

Can't be a McLaren as it was still running!

My son was using a 70-200mm and has some nice shots, but agreed at Silverstone a little longer is required.

Excellent set, Williams also had 4 x 2 six wheeled car, 4 wheels at the front and 2 at the rear. (y)

I think you are confusing the Williams and the Tyrell six-wheelers.

Williams actually had two Six-wheeled F1 cars.
The first of their six-wheelers, based on their 1979 car, was called the FW07D and was followed by the FW08B, using their 1982 car as a base.
Unlike the Tyrell, which had four steerable front wheels, both cars had the additional pair of wheels at the rear.
The car was about 250mm longer than a standard FW08 and all four rear wheels were driven.

Martin Brundle drove the 08B at Silverstone and commented that it felt really good, and if they had got the weight down he thought it could have been competitive

For 1983 the FIA announced all cars should have a maximum of four wheels with two of them driven, and that killed off the last six-wheeler for good.
