Windows 7 raw thumbnails ???????

hi

just used the camera yesterday for the first time since installing windows 7

problem is I cant see any thumbnails of my RAW images in the "my pictures" folder

I've been on the NIKON site and downloaded camera RAW , does this affect this ?

any ideas please ?

same here I have been looking for the file needed I have the one for Vista but still to find a win7 one

I would have thought they would have included this with the latest release?
It was a pain in the backside with Vista so I would have thought this would have been picked up with 7.

Shame that because I bet this affects an awful lot of users out there who will have to do something else like install a plugin or convert the images first

is it just me or should Microsoft sorted this from the off ?

after all people using DSLR's and shooting in RAW isn't exactly uncommon

I have been using Windows 7 for about 4 months now and love it. I have no problems viewing RAW thumbnails but I am using the Ultimate version and I only have a Canon 350d so older stuff.?? Not sure why you cant (or couldnt) see the thumbnails.

I think the CODECS belong to the camera manufacturers so there may be licencing issues with including them as part of the OS. At least that's the impression I get from reading the MS page.

I would agree with this, I seem to recall reading it somewhere else too a while back. FWIW, I think i just used the vista/xp nikon codec and it works just fine, I can view NEF files on my Windows 7 machine. :shrug:


edit: just went and checked and it is indeed the same old nikon CODEC that has worked on my Windows 7 machine http://www.nikonimglib.com/nefcodec/
