windows apple and itunes

Hi Guys

We're phasing out the last of our windows machines in favour of an all apple imac set up, now the problem is, one of the iphones has only ever been sync'd with the windows laptop. The phone now needs to be sync'd with the imac instead but Im worried that the new itunes install will delete everything on the phone.

What's the best way to get everything off the iphone onto the new as yet unopened itunes?

Just plug it in! No, really.

Do a full sync and backup on the windoze machine. Don't forget to de-authorise that computer. Then fire up the mac. authorise it with your mac id and plug in the iphone.

And it's THAT simple that simply deauth'ing the laptop will allow the new itunes to import from the phone?

I asked a guy in an apple reseller shop in chester today, he said it was a difficult process that needed files copying to exhd's and pasting back in on the mac etc.

I can see the iphone in itunes but trying to sync apps and music ect wants to erase the phone

yeah you can only sync to one machine at a time, trying to sync it in to another will prompt to erase.

Sorry if I gave you duff info, Brian, but I don't remember copying files whenever I replace my main iMac.

No worries John

I copied the music and iTunes folder and replaced the mac folder. After a telling I tunes to locate the files it all worked.

iPhone now syncs with the new mac

I used to hate iTunes with a vengeance but slowly grew to love it when I got an iPod touch. I tried going back to WMP which I used to use, as a test, and couldn't hack it. I now install and use iTunes despite the fact that I don't have an iPod touch.

After a month of having my first ever iPod I sold it and removed iTunes, that's how much I hated the whole iTunes/iPod set up

WMP... Yikes.... I use foobar2000 on the PC for music (although I have an xbmc into the office hi-fi and that does anything other than casual listening) and a Cowon D2 for on the move. It just acts like a HDD and then indexes the new songs when it is turned on.

hey dont knock WMP , i use it on my desktop (laptop has itunes for my ipod) with codecs for FLAC. granted i dont use the library.

I never had a problem with WMP until I started using iTunes and then realised how clunky it was to use WMP in comparison to it. WMP 11 is better but it still doesn't hold a candle to iTunes, imo. It is a bit bloated, but to be fair, what software isn't these days? I'm still on version 8 though, as I upgraded to version 9 and found it to be much slower. It also wrecked my library so when I went back to 8 I had to restore my library (as I run the iTunes library directly from the server) which I was not happy about!

Edit: Thinking about it, I can't remember whether I'm on v8 or v9... all I know is the one that superceded it sucked.
