I dunno what happened, I needed to restart my computer after uninstalling a game I wasnt playing anymore. Then when I had restarted, I kept getting a message saying windows explorer had stopped working. Luckily there was a link to the microsoft website that I could manage to get online from.

Does anyone know what I can do to get it working again?? :help::help:

Cheers Jordie

you can download it from Microsoft.

You mean you can download the start bar from microsoft website?

Cos thats what I mean
Thats just completley dissapeared!

You mean the taskbar with the start button to the left?

Have you tried a roll back/restore?

If you right click the mouse where the taskbar is supposed to be, do you get a drop down menu?
Also, do you have any 3rd party 'dock' software installed? (as in other customised menu software).

press ctrl+alt+del and go to task manager. application tab, new task, type in: explorer (click OK).

does that get it working again?

It just stops working as soon as i press ok

No I dont. and right clicking doesnt work!

Oh and there is another thing.... "Microsoft windows search protocol host stopped working and was closed"

Hi Jordie,
Try this..........Click start and type CMD, then hit enter, From the prompt, type "sfc /scannow" this will check your system files and repair if required, you may need to have your o/s disk in the cd/dvd drive, it may take a while.

Sorry, just noticed you don't have the start button, try this.
press CTRL+ALT+DEL to start up the Task Manager. on the File menu, select New Task (Run...). Type in "cmd" and press OK
that should bring up the command box.

Hey Pete,

I cant click start( as the start bar is missing) I am having to do everything from the task manager. And sometimes that doesnt work.

2ndly I dont have a disk for vista. I just tried typing in the sfc /scannow and it says I need to be running a console session. Any clue how I do that? I am guessing it needs to have a disk

Not sure if this is the same problem i've had but if you drag your cursor down to the bottom of the screen, left click your mouse and drag up..hopefully your task bar will reappear..

Ah the BSOD, now you have it running create a boot disc and or image back up in case it all goes t**s up again, at least then you will have the opertunity to boot from the disc if nothing else works.
