Hi,
First I hope this is the right place for my question.
I have a new ScanDisk SD Ultra 16Gb card but my computer, running Windows XP, will not acknowledge it.
I have another small laptop running Windows 7 which does "see" the card.
Is there a quick fix for the Windows XP out there in the blue yonder that someone can point me to ?

Have you checked if it's an SDHC - my old card reader wouldn't read SDHC cards but I got one from ebuyer for a pound or something which works fine. If other people can't help I'd give a cheap SDHC card reader a go.
 
Is this via a card reader ? It maybe your reader isn't compatable - have you tried to download the photos via the camera ?

My FIL is running XP and it happily sees his 8GB CF cards.

I have a PC running XP Pro and the card slot only sees up to 4Gb cards - any larger and I have to get a card reader capable of "adjusting" it - I tried a cheap card reader from Poundland but it didn't work so had to buy one specifically to read that high.

So it seems to depend on the PC.

Make sure your system is fully updated. XP doesn't read any SD card over 4GB due to format restrictions, but if you update it to the latest service pack and updates. It'll work :)

I did download the photos direct from the camera, that works !
I am using a sandisk 16Gb SDHC card and it works with windows 7.
I tried the microsoft patch but when I down load it, it says that I have XP service pack 3 running and I do not require it.
Still cannot "see" the card.
Will try and find a "reader" now.

I've the Sandisk image mate card reader and it works a treat, very quick to download.

The new Lexar reader is very good as well
 
Does anyone have a card reader that will work with XP service pack 3 and "adjust" a 16Gb SDHC card ?
Can I ask if you do, what make is it and where did you purchase it ?
A look through thousands on eBay and I cannot find one that actually says it will work with a 16Gb SDHC card !
