First of all - This is not for me as I have hardly any idea about Windows models etc but my gf is looking for a Windows running -

XP, at least 3 USB ports and must have WIFI and about a 15" screen.

Cheap as possible, does anyone have any pointers?
 
You'll be lucky to find a new machine running XP as it is now old hat with Win 7 being the current OS, should be able to pick up a new reasonable machine for about £350 depending on what it is going to be used for.
 
That's what I thought, but she hates Vista and 7. It's not going to be used for much, just she wants her own as at the moment she's sharing with her mum and isn't allowed to install skype in it, and obviously we want to use that. I tried to convince her with an old Powerbook (only about £120) but she absolutely hates Apple! :P
 
i think most if not all have stopped offering XP a long time ago.

if you buy a system with Windows 7 Professional or better then you can downgrade to XP but you will need XP media and product key..

obviously this will depend greatly on hardware also, some newer hardware wont have drivers for XP etc.

short answer is that she'll have to get used to Windows 7 in the long run.
 
You can pretty much make 7 look and feel like XP though, although the nicer features of 7 are still there...
 
Thanks. I'll "try" and suggest this to her, but she is very determined with what she wants...
 
You dont actually need a seperate XP product key, during the XP installation the process recognises the genuine win 7 key and automatically accepts that key, ive downgraded dozens of laptops from Win 7 and Win Vista to XP and provided the machine had a genuine copy of Win 7 or Vista theres no problems.

Doesnt apply to home versions though, the original installed Windows version must be Win 7 Pro or above or Win Vista Business and above.

to be honest ive had no need to do it, that was just the way i read it..

but thats good to know :)

Lots of people cant get the hang of the Win 7 taskbar with stacked windows and stuff pinned to the taskbar, you can however get the old style XP Quick Launch back up and working by following these very simple steps.
