Sorry for being dumb but I get very confused of the above. I want to set up a small home studio to try on portrait, I have gathered the equipment list, such as softbox etc. I realise I need some sort of wireless flash trigger/receivers, I look around and find the Yongnuo RF-602, think it will be what I need. Then I come across a question, how do I use a wireless shutter release? I search a bit more and I get very confused how I am going to proceed.

May you please point me to the right direction that what equipment do I need in order to do some self portrait?

I got the list as following: (please let me know what else I should consider as well)

Phil will be happy with your choice of softbox, more £ for him!

The 602's are old triggers now - look at the 603ii instead, I think they will do your shutter release for you!

What speedlite are you using?
 
the 602 reciever has a special cable that goes into the remote port of your camera
its seporate a seporate purchase but cheap

not sure 603 can do that
 
thanks all the replies. I am using a sb-600 and planning to get a 2nd one but unsure which model or brand yet, as stated above, tight budget.

602's are cheaper and do the job fine. They are transcievers which means they both recieve and transmit, sensing for themselves which mode they should be in. You need a pair with a Canon cable for your remote trigger (C3 is the common one but different for some camera models) Connect your cable to the camera socket and use the other 602 to fire that set up.
You then put a 602 in the hot shoe and this will trigger the other ones with your flash guns on. HTH's!

I've used 6 of these for years without any problems at all ! (other than batteries going flat eventually. They take AAA's)
 
so basically what I need is 3 602/603 as following:

-602/603 with a cable to connect to camera
-602/603 connects to a flash
-602/603 acts as a shutter release

Is it right? I just can't get my mind round it, sorry for being daff again:p
 
Yes. To put it another way. I use 2 602's as a shutter release (receiver and transmitter) a 602 in the hotshoe (flash transmitter) and 3 attached to my flashguns (flash receiver) HTH's

only look at YN622 n forget the rest ..out of date types the TN622n ar about £25 each ..how many do you want for £200
 
the 602 you have seporate transmitter and reciever, for normal use you chuck transmitter on your camera hotshoe, it'll send signal on each shot, reciever recieves that shot and fires the flash that's on top of it.

if you need to say operate the camera remotely then you need the tx in your hand, a 602 with a cable that goes from its rear port to the remote port on the camera, and if you need a flash aswell, then another 602 for that should be ok
 
come on lads why buy rubbish manual triggers when you can have Ittl units which will do everything ....some of you just have your head in a bucket of sand.
 
remmber that I said 602 may not auto focus when pressing the tranmitter button, but it should fire the shutter in manual focus :-)
 
cost, and if your doing works which suit manual then its all you need.
and the yn560 has that fancy remote thing now too...
 
YN560 oh no ...manual only ..spend a few pounds more and get the 565 and get a gun you can use anywhere with ittl.

Photographic equipment is like militry hardware ...it has to work 100% or you is dead.
 
Plus TTL cam be inconsistent with no indication of what flash levels were. It's the lighting equivalent of AUTO mode...

I've ordered both of these products from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IN2DA40?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 the controller has arrived but the triggers are taking an age to get here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CSFCDKK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 so I've not been able to try anything yet!
 
hmm 565 looks decent, but as I shoot sony, sigma and film cameras and not canikon it only has modeling light over the 560 in my case, and maybe it was a lot more in the past...

but yeah a ttl flash is easier and has more uses
 
TTL Is easier in many situations but I would argue against the 'more uses'. Manual flashes can be used in any situation and are preferable in many (try balancing three flashes to get an exact look using TTL - it won't happen).
 
i have a d7000 and it has a remote shutter release on the main menu dial on top of the camera you have to buy a {less than a £10 } on e-bay a remote shutter simples
i have used mine lots of time and its great
 
A remote shutter release plugs into the side of a ~D 7000 ...can you explain the menu dial reference ??
