I have seen these wireless SD cards:

and thought that that would be a very useful feature but my bodies all use compact flash memory cards.

You can get SD to CF adapters:

Has anyone tried combining these?

Has anyone actually used one of these wireless SD cards?

I don't care if it drops the speed to one capture every second or something like that but wirelessly tethered would be a great bonus without the cost of the full Nikon interface.

I use one of these cards and it works very well. I'm not sure how well it would work with the SD to CF adapter as I don't need one with the D300s having an SD card slot. On the Eye-Fi users forum it seems some have used them but on their web site it does say they do not support the use and there are known issues such as reduced range.

Some cameras do not work with the cards but there is a list on the Eye-Fi web site. I use one of the Geo cards and it records my location if there are wi-fi networks in range.

When using the wireless feature in range of my mac it uploads the photos as I take them so by time I get back to my desk they are there waiting.

MDR - would you recommend these then.... or are they just another "gadget"

I looked into it Darren but decided not to bother, I manage fine tethered. I did find out though that you can do it but you need a decent adapter and you really need to remove the metal siding off the adapter as it blocks some of the signal. Basically you can get it to work with the adapter but you will have a reduced signal. The other thing that made my mind up is some of the reports of how long it takes to transfer the files (especially with raw).

For me it is very useful. If you want to download and check your photos on your computer as you take them then it is good. If I have a large number to download then I still use a card reader. My cheaper version of the card only transfers jpegs but as the D300s can store raw on the CF card and jpegs on the SD card it is fine for my requirements. I don't like wires so I prefer this to the more expensive tethered shooting alternative.

Quite a few event photographers are using these. I believe there are some issues when using some cards with the CF adaptor but all have workarounds. Canon users with dual card slots say they work like a dream. Generally the Eye-fi cards are proving to be a low cost alternative to manufacturers wifi.

 Dont you have to have something along the lines of "flickr" for this or can they be tranfered to a file on your PC ie "My Pictures"?

No it works with lightroom and as I use a Mac there are other alternatives such as watching for files appearing in a location and automatically running a script on them.

Curious to know if there is any difference between "eye-fi" & these "eye-fi X2"

Is there any difference?
