i need to replace my printer as it's given up the ghost.i've seen a wifi printer in tesco's,and i'm just wondering if it will work with any computer....

also,i assume it will need a USB port for a dongle of sorts?

sorry for the dumb questions...
 
Depends what model of printer it is , I have the Epson px700w with built in wifi , works great and no dongle its built in and has bluetooth as well. As long as you have a wifi connection should be no problems with any.
 
Take a look at the Canon MP620, its multifunction, has wireless or wired capabilities, uses 5 inks (2 of which are black) I've had no problems with mine and it produces good results (i'm also investigating CISS for it)

I had the MP610 which was a good printer till i put a CIS on it.
Worked well for a week then for some reason it flooded the printer with ink which blew some parts , It wasnt a cheap CIS neither .

From the way you've asked that question, I think you may slightly misunderstand how such a printer works.

It's wireless if you have a wireless router, it's not a direct wireless connection between the printer and the computer via a dongle or something, you already need a wireless network for it to connect to.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume you've seen the HP C4580. This requires you to plug it in via USB initially while you configure it's wireless settings (SSID and WPA/WEP key, that sort of thing), then you can place it elsewhere and have it function wirelessly.

Doesn't seem to be a hugely loved printer though Trusted Reviews themselves thought it was ok.
 
cheers for the replies guys....just been out to swansea and called into PC world and asked for some advice regarding wifi printers.

the printer in question is an HP C4580 and it costs £55 in tesco,which is apparently less than half normal retail price.

i have a wireless router,and all i need to do is connect the printer to the computer to install the drivers etc...then after that,the computer will recognise the printer when i wish to use it...

anyone have experience of said printer?

yep,it is the HP C4580....well done that man :thumbs:

i'll take a look at the review and make a decision based on the findings.cost is a big factor to be honest,and don't really want to spend more than £70 at present.
 
Do some research into ink costs too. This is a mistake I have made before.

I bought an Epson R220 printer a few years back and it was wonderfully cheap for the quality. It was only when I first needed ink and realised a full set was about £60 that it suddenly seemed less of a bargain.

The latest printer i've bought was for my parents and that takes ink costing £6.50 for a black and something like £15-£20 for all three colours.

As for wireless, bear in mind the only real benefit is if you need to use it away from an actual PC due to lack of space or something. Or maybe if your PC is a laptop it might be useful too. If you can leave the printer next to the computer and plug it in with USB that will be far easier and if needs be, setting printer sharing over your network so all PCs can access it is pretty easy anyway.
 
You will have to watch the price of ink cartridges. The printer may be cheap but if you do a lot of printing you can easily over time spend more on ink than the printer!
 
the inks for that printer are approx £16 for the black,and about the same for the colour cartridge.looks like i need to do some heavy research as to which one suits me best....

i preferably want a wifi one as space is at a premium,so ideally will only pull it out for use,then hide it away again.

For good CIS go to cityinkexpress.co.uk
goo value and inks are good and only 4.04p 100mil
