Hi folk,

Does anyone know of any good woodlands for photography in South Devon? Obviously there’s Wistmans, and a few others - Dendles, Piles Copse, but looking for a beech wood for some autumn colours or a nice sparse, even-aged conifer plantation that would look nice on some fog...

Cheers,
Tom

Fingle Woods? About 8 mile east of Exeter.

Not sure what it would be like in autumn, but we stayed near there in August. River Teign runs through it. Imagine it would look fantastic in October.

Steps Bridge just West of Dunsford on the B3212 is worth a look. A few miles down the Teign from Fingle. Hembury Castle (head up Hembury Cock Hill from Buckfast towards Holne) might be what you're after too.

Some beautiful colours at Mamhead close to Exeter racecourse. If you walk through one stretch to the Obelisk you look down over the valley towards the estuary. Get there early and get a few buzzards and other birds gliding past
