I picked up a set of Kenko extension tubes last week and have been playing around with them. I am quite impressed with how well the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D works with the tubes. The working distance is about 2in/5cm and magnification is slightly more than 1:1.

This was with the D50 and SB600 and 68mm of tubes:

Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/13.0
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 200

Just noticed that the sensor could do with a clean!

Thanks Chris.

It looks quite grumpy. A bit of starship trooper maybe?

The D50 has not been used at f/13 for a while, so I have not noticed the dust.

That's an absolute ripper, Mike! One of those 'I wish I'd taken that' shots. Everything is just spot-on - detail, sharpness, colour, light, pose, and as if that wasn't enough, the composition closes the deal for me - I love the repeated pattern in thirds there. Simply perfect mate, well done!

Thanks John and D.R.D.

It was actually one of those lucky shots. I was messing around with the tubes and the nifty fifty when I spotted the woodlouse on a potplant.

I have now cleaned up the dust spots a bit.
