Woody Woodpecker

Alastair, i found the same with my first few images on that perch. I had to move my focus point to the right of the viewfinder on the camera to focus on the eye area.

Forgot to mention that i have the benefit of a zoom lens which helps compose on that perch ( Sigma 120-300 )

Both good, but I really like the 1st shot, nice simple background really brings the detail out, I don't mind the composition at all, sometimes rules are there to be broken !! lol (y)

I agree the bird would look better being framed over to the right in this instance to give him more room to look into. Its still a good capture with a nice clean back ground. (y)

2 great shots, I think I agree with Mark re the comp of the first image though it is possible including more of that perch on the left would cause it to dominate the shot.
