you must have a little patch of woods near you ? if so go put a few feeders up, of the beaten track though .

I know very little about them, what sort of things would you use?

well you get a stump of choice, drill a few holes in it where you want the bird to be, then fill the holes with bait. what i use is suet mixed with wild bird seed and a load of crushed nuts. others use peanut butter. once they find it they'll be back most days
