Woohoo! I have my camera back ...

eventually after much deliberation about whether to repair of not, I went for it and had it repaired, and today I got my camera back

So now I am back in action, after having learned many lessons along the way (in the 8 months of owning a DSLR). I'm not sure what caused the problem, i.e., whether it was the rain or dust, or over-use but apparently the camera was dismantled and they had to replace the Motor Drive PCB??? (not sure what that means).

Anyway, the camera is now alive again and I can't wait to get out and about taking some pics (I have been so deprived for the last month having to make do with my Kodak EasyShare DX4530 - which I must say has surprised me as I have taken it to the limits and got some surprisingly good shots ) Not forgetting the good old faithfull Nokia N95 mobile camera too

So now the belated house spring clean (or should that be winter hibernation sort out?) will be put on hold so I can have some snappy fun this weekend

That would be the printed circuit board which powers the motor drive, so it means there were no mechanical issues - just a failed board which can sometimes happen.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it had something to do with me using the camera too much, or perhaps when it got a tad wet on one of the TP meets.

Unfortunately things do happen to equipment, I just hope I don't have any more problems, so here is holding thumbs.

If water got in it could well have shorted out the board.You need to be a bit careful with modern electronic cameras unless they're fully weather sealed..Play safe and get a cheapo rain cover or just use the plastic bag dodge.

Thanks, great advice. I think I will have to invest in a rain cover of sorts (or stock up on plastic bags ), because there is one thing ..... I won't always let the rain stop me from going out with my camera (unless it is p'ing down in buckets).

Thanks Tom, as much as I would love to, I unfortunately can't afford to upgrade to a semi pro body yet, so will have to make the best with my 1000D for now.
