Well, after umming and aahing for a few weeks now, today I took delivery of my third new body in 12 months (and second Canon in 3 months) - a brand spanking new Canon 5DMKII :D

Full frame loveiness is now mine - shame I only have the 50mm f1.8 and Sigma 105 to play with (the other two lenses I own are EF-S for my 500D). Time to save up for a 17-40L and 70-200L now! :D

Just thought I'd share :p

Thank you :D

It's amazing how much sturdier the 5DII feels compared to the 500D, and I never realised how tiny the 500D was until I sat both cameras next to each other - the 430EXII doesn't look daft sitting on the top of the 5DII

Got some serious adapting to do though - the field of view on FF compared to the crop is crazy! :) Still - that's part of the reason why I bought it I guess!

Congrats Nick :woot:

May you have a very fruitful partnership! :D

It's a lovely camera, and if you shoot landscapes with tripod, all you need is one of those L brackets to keep the camera nice and sturdy, plus a grip if you like them! ;)

Thank you - Landscapes are my 'thing', and I'm starting to do more portraits (hence the choice of 5DII) - so a grip is probably on the shopping list.
What's an 'L' bracket - it's not a term I've come across...?

Also, the reason for the 17-40L was for some lovely wide-angle landscape action... but comments like

Get the 24-70L...it goes BEAUTIFULLY With the 5dii.

and

nice one!
+1 on the 24-70. My most-used lens by a mile.

have now got me wondering. Do I need to substitute my choice of 17-40L with the 24-70L, or supplement? If supplement, where can I get some easy finance - especially seeing as a 70-200L is on the list!

congratulations on the new toy

wouldn't mind seeing a side-by-side picture of them :D

Ask and you shall receive :D

Apologies for abysmal quality - light is almost non-existant in the loft at this time and I was using the iPhone. Either way, 500D with kit 18-55 on the left, 5DII with 50mm f1.8 on the right :)

Welcome to the full frameness world. I would recommend the 17-40mm. What are you going to do with your 500D?

Will keep the 500D as a backup camera I think. It looks like I'm moving towards the paid portrait side of things now, I may even get enticed towards the wedding side of things (I'm in no hurry for that!) but I just feel I need a second body as a backup and the 500D is quite capable for that...

The other week I was doing some work for the local council who are running a 'Britain's got talent' style affair - was headshot portraits in one room, audition 'candids' in the other. I was forever swapping lenses (nifty for the headshots, 55-250 for the candids) as and when people turned up for their auditions - even the wife commented on how I'd be better off with two camera bodies! Simple justification done! :D

 on the new body Nick, I've just upgraded to the D300:D and the size difference to the D60 is like a Tonka toy to a Matchbox.

Cheers mate :)
Good job with your upgrade too - your kit bag is starting to look quite nice now, especially that Tamron 90. I used one on a D70 for a couple of weeks and it's a lovely lens to work with

That's Cool Rodders  enjoy !

I would suggest getting a couple of cheap old EF lenses off EBAY to get you started. I've got a 22-55 an 28-90 and a 80-200 for around £30 each I've just won a Sigma 17-35 for £33 :D ...

plan is, to be able to use and to test out the focal ranges on the full body BEFORE I jump in with both feet and re-mortgage for 'L' glass  - these cheap ones will always sell for what I payed so I consider them free !

'tip' with not so good lenses, drop the MP down to 12 ('M' quality setting) and be amazed at the results !

Have fun playing anyway

Thanks for the pic... It's pretty noticeable difference. Real camera vs a toy almost

3 bodies in 12 months -- can i have a loan???

Cheers Tricky mate . Will look at eBay for lenses, see if I can find a wideish angle cheapo to keep me going. There seem to be a fair few 28-80/90's about...?

Heh, how do you think I got the 5DII . Paying for that one with my bonus in April!

Body 1: Olympus E420, bought as an xmas pressie to myself last year.
Body 2: Canon 500D, bought to replace Oly and get me into a more accessorised brand - paid for by selling my car!

I think they were 'Kit' lenses on the EOS film cameras. Remeber 28 FF is about 18 on a crop.
Sometimes you see the 28-80/90 going for about £5 :D just keep your eyes peeled.

I'll keep a look out for you too

Want one! Want one! Want one! Want one! Hehe! Enjoy it mate. :)
