Woohoo new tripod

Can I ask a dumb question. What is the benefit of a ball head mount? Does it make it easier to position the camera or am I missing something :shrug:. Sorry new to tripods
I'm looking at buying a redsnapper but Im unsure if I should get a ball head mount in place of the std head.

A ball head is like the ball-and-socket joint of your shoulder. You loosen it and you can swivel in all directions.
A pan head is like what you might commonly expect a tripod to be. You have the two things to loosen to adjust the camera. You can loosen one thing, and only swivel up and down like nodding your head yes. Or loosen just the other, and swivel back and forth like nodding no.

I have almost the same but my head is the 486RC2, got hold of the tripod from the classifieds on here and already had the head on a monopod.
Tis a sturdy beast and should last a life time for me.

This is a very efficient tripod ballhead if speed is key. I own the 322rc2 but think it has been replaced by these

Still using my ages old 055CB, not sure what the new ones come with, but wrapped some 22mm foam pipe lagging on a couple of legs so its not so cold to the touch.
The carry straps are pretty much all the same, got a Giottos one on mine, but often just grab the legs and carry it over my shoulder.
Ballheads are excellent, the friction control is a great idea, set so it holds the camera steady, but still not too stiff to move

Never fancied a joystick type head but guess the could be useful

At first I though the was a warmer missing as they only have 2 not 3They come with some nice warm strong foam fitted as standard
