Hi Guys,

I have been working on my blog tonight to make all comments "dofollow" rather than "nofollow".

I have activated a plugin, and including to the plugin, 112 links are now "dofollow" and 10 are "nofollow" (comments with no url).

Happy days, yet.......

When I view the page source, and look at the comment, the "nofollow" command is still there!?

Will it still show, yet the blog will just overide it?

install the "dofolow plugin"

go to plugins, add new, search for "do follow"
 
Out of curiosity, because its the one thing I keep meaning to look into and haven't yet, what is the no follow and do follow thing anyway? There are some seo pluggins that seem to reccomend it should be no follow, others dofollow - I experimented with a few pluggins in a test blog installation a while back and it was something I noticed but forgot to check up on the pros and cons. :shrug:
 
No follow and do follow were first introduced to deal with the links that adverts produce. I.e. should goggle follow the link in a rotating banner add on a site, to a site that pays for it to be there?

However it now has become the norm to determine
"should google follow the link to the next site"

Site owners have the choice: make a link follow to the next site (do folow) or prevent google from spidering to the next site (no follow)

The main usages for this are on forums (where making the site no-follow, it discourages people from adding spam links, as there is no point - they wont get followed)

By making your word press blog / forum "do follow" you are encouraging comments with URL's in them. If those links are to bad neighbourhoods (gambling / porn / violence / drugs) Google and other interested parties may alter the ranking of your site

Hi Richard, I tried the "dofollow" plugin first.

That didn't work.

I then activated the sMU dofollow plugin, which now shows 110 links as do follow in it's settings, yet when I view the source of the comment it still shows and no follow?!

As Richard said, if you are getting comments from Porn, viagra, etc then it will not help. However if you moderate your comments first like I do, this will not matter as I have to authorise each comment first! :)

note.

Do folow = flag saying - Come and have a go = likley more spam comments
No folow = sign saying - your keyword spam is pointless = likely less spam comments

If you end up deleting 200 spam comments a day after swapping to dofollow then swap back

a lot of plugins are not designed for WPMU
