Wordpress permalinks retained on category change?

It seems that Wordpress 2.9 will retain previous permalinks even if the category gets changed. So a post can be accessed via the old and new permalink.

Is this true? I want to change a bunch of posts and ideally both permalinks would work.
 
I think that might be true although I've not tried it on my own website before. Try a couple of test categories.
 
I've not tried it but heard the same. Just remember you'll have to make sure your .htaccess file is writeable (assuming custom install).
