Just got a Canon 500d and want to adopt a save routine, I understand that converting the JPEG`s will take less space but wonder if a tutorial for dummies is out there somewhere, I have been reducing the image size to 8x10 or 10x8 but dont know if i should adjust/enhance before or after re-sizing, And, When to sharpen.:nono:

Okay,

Save your images to two places if possible, buy an external hard drive.

Leave the hard drive images as masters.

Tweak the images in 16bit if you can to preserve the most data possible in the file, reduce to 8bit if saving as jpeg.

Then crop, generally, then last thing is sharpen. If you get to a result you love and you are using Photo shop, save as a psd, and jpeg so you can re-trace your workflow for use on other images.

NOt aure if that awnsers your question, but hope it helps a little....

Am not shooting raw at this time, The DPR report suggests that very marginal detail exists by utilyzing raw,Unless one is very experienced at using it (my opinion) and I had read somewhere that jpeg`s detireate and should be saved as tiff`s.It occurs to me that digital photography relies a lot on how to use the data,I have a rather old version of photoshop 5!!:help:

It's the resaving of an existing JPEG that causes deteriation in the image. Take a file then save it as a new filename then resave it a dozen times, then see what it looks like. Always consider the file that comes out of the camera whether RAW or JPEG as the negative, and keep that original safe. You can then make as many other altered prints (JPEGs) as you want.
