Worried of TalkPhotography!...

I've noticed when I look through the viewfinder of my D300 a black mark. It's not on the lenses I know. I can see the black mark on the viewfinder whatever lens I have on.

Now earlier in the year I had exactly the same thing. I was doing a photography course and showed it to the tutor (a well known pro photographer). I had my rocket blower with me.

Now I'm sure what he did was he just removed the lens, held the camera face down pointing towards the floor and used the rocket blower to clear it off. It worked after about 3 attempts. I think that's what he did.

So I'm worried if I repeat what I think he did I might damage the sensor etc.

Anyone care to put my mind at ease? Where should I aim the blower at if camera is held face down?

Or should I just take it to Fixation or somewhere?

if you mount it face down on a tripod Clive you can get underneath it and see where you are aiming it. Basically you just need to blow the cavity in the general direction of the mirror and focus screen, as the blob will probably be on one of them. Just use your common sense and be careful.

It sounds like you have a spot of dust on your mirror or focussing screen. It's nothing to worry about... annoying as it is!

Sounds like filth on the mirror. Remove the lens, hold the body upside down and blow into it with the blower.

If this doesn't work, I've had succecss cleaning the mirror with a lens cloth, although they're apparently quite easy to damage so you might be better getting it done professionally if you're unsure..

Thanks everyone for your advice. Much appreciated.
