Worth fixing my F1.8 50mm Nikon AI?

Hi all,

I have a nice Nikon AI 50mm F1.8 lens which for the most part is fine, however it only focuses upto about 7 metres or so away. Seeing as it only cost me about £30, is it worth getting fixed? Would I gain that much by upgrading to the AF-D version? I would quite like to get the metering, auto-focus version (I have a D90 so it would auto-focus)

Thanks in advance, Boopop.

I'm guessing that to pay someone to repair it would not be a viable option - especially as you can get an AF-D version for little more than double what you paid for yours. There's a couple in the classifieds right now.

If you're willing you could have a go at it yourself, but you need the patience of a saint, VERY steady hands and probably some special tools. There's a group on Yahoo.com (NikonRepair) which has discussions on home repair of Nikon kit.

Whack yours on Ebay - you'll probably still get more than £30 for it even not fully working. It's amazing what people pay for spares or repair stuff :cuckoo:

Fixing it myself...that could be interesting, I might try that, thanks :)

Fixing most problems with manual focus lenses is usually pretty easy.
