I'm thinking of moving on my Pentax medium format gear as it's not seen use in over a year and I don't see it getting much use for the forseeable. Anyone any thoughts on whether it's worth trying to get it all to one of the shops for a trade-in or would I get stung for giving them a load of kit at once? I'm also not sure where to go for - if I did it, it would be to pick up some lenses for my Fuji digi stuff as that far and away seeing most use. I'll still have the Yashica Mat and a tonne of 35mm stuff, so I'm not giving up on film, but I'm finding scanning MF a pain time wise at the moment, whereas the dedicated 35mm scanner makes that a much easier prospect.. I'm adding the forum options to the poll in case people have a strong opinion, but I am inclined for the shops at the moment!

I played 'The Tain' by Horslips over and over back in the 70's :)

Hard to say whether you get more for a system rather than single items.
I'm inclined to think people expect a bargain as an all in one purchase.
Pentax MF tends not to hang around for long on the bay.

Yeah, it's that annoying tradeoff between getting rid and getting the most cash!

I've pretty much given up selling on ebay after a few hassles with buyers - it's still good to buy on, but that because it's so heavily weighted to the buyer..

Gumtree could be an option though...

This is quite ironic Brian as I'm considering selling some of my MF gear, namely the RZ67.

I'm pretty sure financially it would be more benfcialt to sell as piecemeal as you call it, however that is time consuming with more chances of agro from multiple purchasers.

Selling as a complete job lot, is defo quicker and more practical but it depends on how much one is willing to "lose" on the potential value.

The one thing that is worth bearing in mind is if you have numerous lenses, be sure to hold a lens back to advertise with the body as, from whar I've found, the bodies are more difficult to move on without an accompanying lens.

Obviously if a potential purchaser only wants the body then shifting the glass seperatley is usually easy enough.

GLWTS whatever you decide to do

Thanks Asha, I've the 75mm AF lens, so I'll definitely sell that only with the body as it makes a nice autofocus MF setup :)

Yeah, it's the agro of mutliple people each trying to get a bargain that I'd like to avoid - I completely understand it as I do it myself! But it would help to skip that step...

I'd like to avoid the same, however there is something else to consider in that many folk don't have funds to buy a large set up which includes a load of lenses and accessories.

Obviously this doesn't apply to most shops, however they usually want to make mega bucks so receiving something near to your asking price may prove difficult.

The more I type the pros and cons, the more I come to realise that potentially I've also got a nightmare scenario!!:(

I'd email Ffordes. Their commision sale process is pretty good. There's also Wycameras.

Out of curiosity, do any of these outlets consider purchases from outside of the UK

I ask as there are no longer any "film gear" shops in the area....when one considers the size of the countr, there are actually more repair specilists in the UK than in France,a darned sight cheaper too!

Film can be purchased, usually Ilford stuff and lenses are often available but because there is no repair services for film camera bodies, the shops won't offer a warranty with film body sales, so therefore won't/ can't sell them

I don't know. I'd email and ask. I'd think they'd be ok with it. There are auction houses that specialise in camera gear so that's another option.

I'm preparing to trade a camera and two lenses for a camera I've wanted for years... not sure it will come off (neither has seen the condition of the other gear yet), and I'm fairly sure I'd lose a bit of cash on the deal (although possibly not considering fleapall fees), but if it works the reduced faff factor will be great, plus... it'll be financially invisible!
