It WAS a Wood Pigeon at, sort of 70mph (big ish), on the A1 northbound day before yesterday...

Made I jump and spread a few feathers on the road behind but I didn't actually see it land or carry on flying...

Thanx a lot for playing...

good grief... I bet that gave you a fright...

It could have done... :D ... but I did see it coming...

I just could not afford to take avoiding action at the (legal) speed I was travelling at on such a busy stretch of road...

The followers might had wondered what on earth was going on as they drove through a cloud of wood pig feathers though... :cautious:

:p

I'd have to say you were lucky Rog. I hit a starling once at 40mph and the windscreen didn't break but it was a mess of blood and feathers.

I reckon it was the cushioning effect of the increased airflow over the rakish angle of the screen that helped... :cautious:

:p

Pigeons ( like most birds I guess) tend to rise at the first sign of danger
and there breast (feathers) are pretty much like armour compared to a lot of others
( against a no.6 anyway :D)
I am sure CT will bare that out :D

I have had the odd one or two fly into my screen over the years and they just leave a grease mark up the screen.
The smaller birds tend to disintegrate I guess they just don't have the "lift"
