Would this Canon EOS 5D mkII be a massive gamble to buy?

Hi guys

I just saw a used 5D mkII for £600, but the shutter count is over 220000.. :(

It does come with a 6 month warrantee though...

My reason tells me that I would want it to last a few years and it's questionable if it would..
 
Is it the one with a count of 222522 ?
For the price it looks OK other than the high count. The seller's very reputable but due to the high count I'd double check that the camera would be covered for shutter related issues for the 6 months warranty cover.

Personally I'd pay more and get one with a substantially lower count, but at least you do have some protection with this one.
 
Indeed it is the exact one.. I have wanted a ff for a long time, but I would want it to be a keeper..
 
Shutter life expectancy is really just a guesstimate. Some never reach the stated life and many go way way past it. FYI a new shutter is about £250 but that o e could go for a long time yet. Whats your average annual shutter count?

If you're having doubts then that may tell you all you need to know. If you want to have more confidence that it'll last a few years then it might be wise to keep looking, 6 months isn't very long.

No idea, I'm not that advanced and only started with dslr's around 6 months ago..

5D I? Ridiculously cheap these days. Mine was near mint for £360 delivered.
 
Get a quote for a new shutter but assuming it is £250 then that would make it £850. If that's still a good deal- and I don't know 5d MkII prices at the moment, then maybe worth it.
The flipside of that is if you're spending all your money on a body and then using poor/average lenses is there any advantage to having FF? If you already only have EF lenses then again maybe fine.
 
Nope, but it does have a viewfinder, and isn't £900 ;) Personally I'd rather spend that sort of money on lenses.
I can see some point in live view if you have a tilty rotatable screen, and comparable AF and shooting speeds- but that seems to still rule out most or all DSLRs at the mo.

I can relate to that, but then again, only 12mp, no video, low ISO..

It all adds up! I do have an EF 50mm and Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro which would both be quite an improvement on a ff body!

I can see that no video could be a deal breaker for you. I don't think 12.8 MP is particularly limiting- it's telling that canon's pro camera the 1dX has fewer MP than the 5D, and I've seen more than one Nikon owner complaining that 36 MP is too many.
I would appreciate another stop or 2 on the ISO front- though at least they're all usable noise-wise on the 5D.
 
Once you have access you'll see they do pop up every now and again on there.

Yeh, I'll agree with that. I do keep looking for an angle finder C to come up at a good price as well though.
 
I can't remember the exact count but my old 400D went WAY beyond the specified shutter count life without any problems.

....Canon 70D is a DSLR with those screen specs etc. :)

With a fresh shutter it should be good to go again, plus you'd know you're starting off from scratch again, security you wouldn't have with a used camera with more exposures.
